In the heart of Heuer’s golden age in the late sixties, Jack Heuer became passionately interested in the American market. The integration of the Heuer name into American motorsports culture was accelerated massively through the release of the Heuer Camaro. Commissioned over a four-year period between 1968 and 1972, the Camaro model was inspired by Chevrolet’s revolutionary automobile model of the same name. The Camaro automobile emerged an icon of smaller, lighter and quicker cars of a new generation- the Heuer Camaro was praised similarly for its avant-garde design in the spirit of ‘˜70s watchmaking. Between 1967 and 1969, the Camaro Super Sport was used as the official pace car in the USA’s most prestigious racing competition- the Indianapolis 500. This exposure and subsequent popularity of the Camaro automobile resulted in enormous media presence for the Heuer product line, with widespread logo recognition following as a result. This excellent publicity, coupled with unique and bold designs solidified the Heuer Camaro as a hugely popular piece still revered by collectors today. This particular 7743 reference features a black dial, slightly tropicalised to a dark brown with twin subdials.
