The design classic. TAG Heuer’s cherished Carrera has undergone many generations of design alteration since its inception in the 1960. While the design of modern Carrera models are a farcry from the original 36mm 2447 range – with enlarged cases, pronounced bezels and skeletonised dials – the sheer dynamism and innovation of the original Carrera is upheld in these newer, groundbreaking pieces. Simply, the Carrera model was never about doing what has already been done.
However the original, simplistic design of the original Carrera cannot go unappreciated. Following the overwhelming market surge for vintage Heuer models, TAG Heuer have routinely celebrated its heritage in the early 2000s by re-issuing and reinventing some of its classic models. This Carrera CAR221A.FC6353 reference is, in our opinion, one of the greatest modern Carreras ever made. Its grey, almost patina-style, subdials only emphasise the vintage feel of this 39mm Carrera. This Carrera exudes all the incredible qualities of its ’60s predecessors, while powered by the impressive Calibre 18 automatic movement.
The famous ‘panda dial’ of the 1960s remain the hottest and most collectable of any Carrera. This version is a testament to one of Heuer’s very best designs – gaining the admiration and respect of the vintage collecting community upon its release. This example remains in unworn condition, presented on a leather Heuer strap with a signed Heuer clasp (stickers remaining). It comes alongside a generic Heuer branded box with no papers.
