Heuer has a rich history in traditional watchmaking, but, on frequent occasions, it also ventured into the digital realm with its series of quartz-powered digital watches. The horseshoe-shaped Kentucky began as a chronograph specialising in the timing of horse races, and the model would later be used as a platform for further innovations through incorporation of LCD digital displays. In the 1970s, a series of Digital Kentucky watches were produced, catering to an industrial shift toward battery-powered digital watches.
This particular example is an incredibly rare edition produced for the ATS German Formula 1 team in the 1970s. The quantity of these watches is unknown, with few examples encountered. This rare piece has undergone a full service to ensure the LCD display is in perfect working order.
A fabulous and intriguing time capsule that reflects Heuer’s intimate ties with motorsport, this Heuer Kentucky is overflowing with charm and storytelling.
