A watch firmly in a league of its own, the Heuer Audi Sport enjoys a cult following in part due to its rarity, as well as its deep connection with motorsport. Imported solely by Prestons – a retailer based in Bolton, U.K., the Audi Sport marked an incredible collaboration between two prominent brands in the early 1980s. Around 100 examples are known to exist, with an estimated 300-500 units produced.
Rallying legend, and famous Audi driver, Hannu Mikkola adorned the watch, supporting the claim that several units were distributed to each of the Audi SWB team members. The majority of units were distributed to Audi dealerships across the U.K., both offered to customers and salespeople as incentives. For a short time, units were ring-fenced for sale exclusively at Prestons.
The stainless steel tonneau-shaped case measures comfortably at 40mm and features a matte black dial with a twin-dial chronograph display, as featured on a select few Lemania models of the time. This example remains in outstanding condition with minimal wear to its case, anodised link bracelet and folding clasp. Importantly, this example is accompanied by its original inner and outer packaging, unique ‘Audi Sport’ booklets and user manual, as well as three TAG Heuer service cards. While Audi Sport models are seldom found in the current market, the added provenance of this example makes for a truly grail-worthy find.
