1972 saw the introduction of numerous pieces into the Heuer catalogue to boost sales and expand its range. While more affordable editions of the existing Carrera, Autavia and Monaco models were released with the Calibre 15 movement, Heuer manufactured a series of dynamic new collections, namely the Calculator and the Montreal, to appeal to a North-American audience. Heuer’s presence as timekeeper for the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, as well as the the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal from 1978, inspired the name of their dynamic new chronograph. Further, Gilles Villeneuve driving for the Heuer sponsored Ferrari team in 1978 was the first Canadian to win the home Grand Prix.

Known for its sizeable 42mm case and bold colourways, the Heuer Montreal is celebrated by collectors as an unapologetically ’70s watch. A notable departure from past and present collections, the PVD Montreal 110.501N was launched in 1976 and discontinued after just one year. The Calibre 12 Montreal remained in the Heuer catalogue for just four years until the second-series Montreal took its place. The second-series lost much of the innovations of its predecessor, swapping out Heuer’s own in-house movement for the latest Valjoux movement. Thus, the Cal. 12 range remains scarce and highly sought after. This Montreal Ref. 110.501N is presented on its original PVD-coated stainless steel bracelet – an increasingly rare feat to find in this condition.
