Most synonymous with the Heuer brand is its rich and longstanding connection to motorsport, inspiring many of the names in the Heuer catalogue. However the advent of the ‘˜70s marked the introduction of a new Autavia model engineered to time yacht races. Known as the Skipper, this watch remains a classic and widely adored treasure in the Heuer collecting community.

Its famous red, white and blue yacht racing timer stands prominent against the deep black dial, segmented for ease of reading when timing a yacht race for 15 minute recordings. While Heuer have had a plethora of nautical stopwatches and navigation wristwatches in their portfolio since the 1950s, the Skipper remains the most iconic of these timepieces. This particular 73463 reference is the first execution of this model- later models used an automatic movement and thus a different case shape. As a result, these manual wind Heuer Skippers remain sought after and highly collectable. Its array of colour, from soft blue to vibrant orange, allows the hands and markers to contrast nicely. This is further enhanced by the orange stitching on its custom leather racing strap.

Measuring at 42mm with a 14mm thickness, this example is powered by a manual winding Valjoux movement (Calibre 7734). This example has an interesting backstory: its original owner, a watersports competitor from Windemere, UK used this Skipper professionally in the 1970s for the timing of various nautical races and competitions. A watch with stories to tell, this Skipper has recently undergone a full service and is in perfect working order.
