Following Techniques d’Avant Garde’s (‘TAG’) takeover of Heuer in 1985, the brand accelerated into new territory. A complete catalogue rehaul saw familiar faces in the Monaco and Carrera abandoned in favour of sportier, quartz-powered, lower market watches aimed at the younger generation. The TAG Heuer 1000 Professional series was the brand’s first attempt at producing dive watches, establishing a popular design which would find longevity through the the 1980s and 1990s. In many ways, the survival of the brand in the early-mid ’80s can be credited to the success of the 1000 range in US, Japanese and Australian markets.
This example, sold in 1988, remains in great condition and is accompanied by its original box, instruction booklet and signed guarantee. A pivotal watch in the brand’s history, the 1000 series is quickly becoming recognised as ‘new vintage’ by enthusiasts who sought these affordable watches in their youth. A fantastic investment and a perfect entry-level piece.
